Peter Falk Estate Gives $3M To UCLA For Scholarships

LOS ANGELES (CBS) - The estate of actor Peter Falk has donated $3 million to UCLA to fund scholarships for students studying music, have disabilities or are military veterans.

Falk, best known for playing the absentminded detective "Columbo," died June 23 at age 83.

According to UCLA, the money will be used to create the Shera and Peter Falk Lt. Columbo Memorial Scholarship Fund, to provide scholarships for at least five undergraduates this fall, covering tuition for four years.

"Peter cared deeply about making a difference and giving back to the community," Falk's wife, Shera, said. "What better legacy than to help students get a great education that will serve them throughout their lives, from a university so close to home."

Falk earned 12 Emmy nominations during his career, winning four for his portrayal of Columbo – with his trademark phrase," Just one more thing…" Falk also won an Emmy for a lead role in an episode of "The Dick Powell Theatre."
