LAUSD Faces Dozens Of Sexual Misconduct Complaints In Wake Of Miramonte Scandal

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — School officials on Friday were dealing with over two dozen complaints of sexual misconduct in the Los Angeles Unified school district.

KNX 1070's John Brooks reports new allegations are mounting after last month's arrest of two teachers at Miramonte Elementary.

One week after shocking allegations of sex abuse surfaced at the South LA school, nine complaints came in alleging sexual improprieties by district employees, with 16 more filed the following week.

Among the complaints are allegations of possession of pornography, the sexual assault of a student, sex with a child, and staring at a students' breasts.

LAUSD Superintendent John Deasy said unlike in the past, no complaint will be ignored.

"For some time, we were not talking about it," he said. "I think we had a whole era of where we hoped things went away...that's not this administration's era."

The complaints will be forwarded to the appropriate law enforcement agency and if police do not pursue criminal charges, the district still has the option of filing administrative charges.
