Lancaster Commute Delayed After Man Commits Suicide On Metrolink Tracks
LANCASTER (CBS) — The Friday morning commute was delayed for dozens of Metrolink passengers after a man committed suicide by laying down on the train tracks.
Engineers said they saw the man lay himself down on the tracks along Sierra Highway and Avenue K in Lancaster about 5:00 a.m. on Friday, Sherita Coffelt of Metrolink said.
Train number 202 had just left Lancaster Station and was headed for Union Station in downtown Los Angeles when it struck the man.
The man, reportedly in his 30s, died at the scene, but the coroner's office did confirm the death was a suicide.
None of the 40 passengers reported any injuries, but the investigation did force Metrolink to reroute passengers onto buses during the investigation.
The track remained closed more than four hours afterward. Another train was brought to the Palmdale Station to accommodate passengers
boarding at that location, Coffelt said.
