Woman Reportedly Abducted Off Street Dies In Pursuit Crash

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — A woman, who reportedly was abducted off a street, was killed Thursday when her suspected kidnapper's car smashed into another vehicle during a police chase in the Westlake area.

Paramedics were sent to the 2400 block of West Sixth Street around 8:11 a.m. The woman was transported to a local hospital, where she later died, according to Los Angeles police Cmdr. Andy Smith.

Her name was withheld, pending notification of relatives.

Shortly after 8 a.m., someone called 911 to report that a suspect had grabbed a woman and forced her into a GMC Yukon, Smith said.

Authorities said the victim was leaning out the window of the SUV during the chase, which ended when the SUV crossed the center line and smashed into a Volvo.

The SUV driver tried to run off but was captured.

The police spokesman said the motive for the abduction is not yet known.
