Gang Member Gets 6 Years For Puppy Robbery

BASSETT (CBS) — Authorities say a gang member has been sentenced to six years in prison for robbing a 9-year-old girl of her puppy.

Jose Castrejon, 26, crept up behind the girl as she waited for her uncle to buy her new "Blue Pit Bull" puppy a dog collar, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. Castrejon grabbed the puppy from behind the neck, who was still in the collar attached the leash the girl held.

Store surveillance video recorded the robbery and the girl can be seen sliding across the sidewalk before finally letting go of the leash. Castrejon got into his truck with the dog and sped away, authorities said.

Castrejon was arrested a day after the robbery and Mia the puppy was reunited with the girl.

Castrejon was sentenced to six years prison for the robbery on Feb. 1.
