Fullerton Police Chief Michael Sellers To Retire

FULLERTON (CBS) — Fullerton's Police Chief Michael Sellers, who went on extended medical leave last August, is retiring.

The announcement was made Friday.

Sellers was the focus of controversy after the death of homeless man, Kelly Thomas.

Thomas died in July following a confrontation with Fullerton police officers.

Two officers have since been arrested.

Police Capt. Dan Hughes will be acting chief until a new chief is hired.

Sellers' retirement will be effective February 18.
