Sword-Wielding Man Fatally Shot By Deputies During Narcotics Search In Lancaster
LANCASTER (CBS) — A man who came at sheriff's deputies with a four-foot sword was fatally shot, authorities said Thursday.
Deputies were serving a narcotics search warrant on a home in the 44000 block of Spearman Avenue in Lancaster about 9 p.m. Wednesday.
When deputies entered the home, a 68-year-old man suddenly exited a bedroom armed with the sword and raised it toward a deputy, sheriff's Lt. John Corina said. The suspect was shot several times.
The man, whose name was not immediately released, was taken to a hospital, where he was found dead.
Corina is heading up the internal investigation into the shooting. The deputy-involved shooting is also being investigated by the Department's Internal Affairs bureau, the L.A. County District Attorney's office and the county's Office of Independent Review.
