1 Million Birth Control Packets Recalled Over Packaging Error
LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Pfizer is recalling 1 million birth control packets over a packaging error that might leave women at risk for pregnancy.
Pfizer is recalling 14 lots of Lo/Ovral-28 (norgestrel and ethinyl estradiol) Tablets and 14 lots of Norgestrel and Ethinyl Estradiol Tablets, the generic version of the drug. Pfizer says some blister packs may contain an inexact count of inert or active ingredient tablets and that they may be out of sequence.
Because of the packaging error, women using this drug as birth control could be at risk for unintended pregnancies. The error in packaging, however, does not pose any immediate health risks.
Women taking the recalled pills should begin using a non-hormonal form of contraception immediately and return their packets to the pharmacy and notify their doctors.
The lot numbers of the affected packs of Lo/Ovral-28 Tablets and Norgestrel and Ethinyl Estradiol Tablets are:
