8 Arrested For Alleged DUI In Overnight Checkpoint Operation

MORENO VALLEY (CBS) —  Deputies arrested nine people, including eight for suspicion of drunken driving, during overnight checkpoints in Moreno Valley and Perris, sheriff's department spokesmen said Saturday.

Moreno Valley police set up blockades at Eucalyptus Avenue and Day Street from 8:30 p.m. Friday until 2:30 a.m. today, and made six drunken driving arrests and one felony drug arrest, said Sgt. Jim Bengston.

There were 1,022 vehicles that passed through the checkpoint, with nine vehicles towed, 42 citations issued for vehicle code violations and five drivers cited for driving unlicensed or with a suspended license, according to Bengston.

"Checkpoints at various times throughout the year are conducted to reduce drunken driving and apprehend drivers with suspended and/or revoked licenses," Bengston said.

Deputies at an undisclosed location in Perris made two drunken driving arrests during the checkpoint from 6 p.m. to midnight Friday, according to Sgt. Dan Lingo.

Ten vehicles were stopped, with six citations issued, four vehicles towed and four unlicensed and suspended drivers sent to court, Lingo said.
