Pepperdine University Blocks Formation Of Gay And Lesbian Campus Support Group
MALIBU (CBS) — Pepperdine University has blocked formation of an official gay and lesbian support group on its Malibu campus.
School officials say the group's mission conflicts with the university's beliefs on sexual morality.
Four thousand students have signed a petition asking the university to reconsider.
The Associated Press reports this is the fourth attempt by Pepperdine students to start a support group for the LGBT — lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender — community at Pepperdine.
Pepperdine is a private university with an enrollment of approximately 7,700, according to its official website.
Pepperdine's mission statement says that the university is "committed to the highest standards of academic excellence and Christian values."
