NORTH HOLLYWOOD (CBS) — A man was killed Sunday morning in an officer-involved shooting in North Hollywood.

Police say residents inside a home in the 7700 block of Ethel Avenue dialed 911 after a family member made threats against them, according to KNX 1070's Ed Mertz.

When officers arrived on scene, they confronted the man outside the home, LAPD Sgt. Mitzi Fiero said.

"The suspect was armed. They ordered him to drop his weapon. The suspect did not comply and instead moved towards the officers. The officers felt threatened. They actually backed up away from the suspect and continued to ask him to drop his weapon in order to give them more time. And when the suspect refused, they fired shots," Fiero said.

The man was hit in the torso, she said. Arriving paramedics pronounced dead at the scene.

No other information was immediately available.
