Simi Valley Mayor Wants New Condom Ordinance To Keep Porn Industry Away

SIMI VALLEY (CBS) — The mayor of Simi Valley has a message for the adult entertainment industry: Stay away.

Mayor Bob Huber spoke out Friday amidst speculation that porn companies may consider relocating from Los Angeles to nearby Simi Valley. The word comes after an ordinance was passed earlier this week by the L.A. City Council requiring male actors to wear condoms during sex scenes.

Huber is now asking that a similar ordinance be drawn up for Simi Valley to stymie the expected relocation.

The LA City Council approved the first of its kind measure Tuesday, which now goes to L.A. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa for approval.

Huber worries if the law passes, porn companies will be tempted to take up residence in his backyard. Simi Valley lies just outside the L.A. County border in Ventura County — less than 30 miles from L.A.'s San Fernando Valley, where nearly 90 percent of U.S. porn movies are currently made.

Huber has a strong message for the any porn company bosses considering a move.

"You're not welcome here," says Huber. "Our citizens, I know the grassroots of our community will stand up and fight to keep them out of this town."

Simi Valley moms seem to be on board with Huber's message.

"Although that industry exists over the hill, I don't want my kids around it," says one concerned mother.

Jamie Miller is raising her family in Simi Valley and says the idea of the porn industry moving in makes her uneasy.

"My daughter's fourteen," says Miller. "So there's a concern that it would be a little bit more easily available to her."
