Man Arrested In Downtown Civic Center Assaults

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Police arrested a man Friday wanted for a spree of assaults on people near downtown's civic center.

Jermaine Vincent Moran was arrested by officers just after 7 a.m. near Main and Temple streets, officials said.

"It didn't take long to find Mr. Moran, and he was within a block of where all of the previous attacks occurred," said Lt. Paul Vernon.

Moran was wanted in connection with four misdemeanor batteries that happened near City Hall since Jan. 3, KNX 1070's Bob Brill reported.

According to officials, Moran pushed, punched or slaped people, "completely unprovoked and without warning as they walk on the sidewalks or through crosswalks in the civic center."

Vernon said Moran would "just continue on his way like nothing happened."

Moran was booked on outstanding warrants for public drunkenness and sleeping on the sidewalk as officials continue to investigate the assaults.
