Feds Deny Assistance To Windswept San Gabriel Valley Cities
PASADENA (CBS) — Cities in the San Gabriel Valley affected by last month's windstorm were denied federal reimbursement for cleanup and repair costs.
Six local cities requested funds but Washington said the damage was not severe enough to qualify for federal assistance.
The mayors of six cities – Temple City, Pasadena, San Marino, La Canada Flintridge, Arcadia, and San Marino – immediately issued an open letter to Gov. Jerry Brown requesting state funding.
According to KPCC, Pasadena Mayor Bill Bogaard wrote, "For the past seven weeks, our cities have been struggling to recover from this unprecedented windstorm that dramatically affected our communities and impacted our citizens."
The record storm blew down hundreds of trees and left many without power for more than a week.
