2 Young Men Wanted In Robberies, Sex Assault Of Teenagers In Los Alamitos

LOS ALAMITOS (CBS) — Police searched Friday for two young men who robbed three teenagers and sexually assaulted a girl as the victims walked home from Los Alamitos High School.

The four crimes occurred at two locations between 2:45 p.m. and 3:05 p.m. Thursday, said Los Alamitos police Capt. Bruce McAlpine.

The first occurred when a 15-year-old boy walking south on Bloomfield Street near Florista Street was approached by two men, one of whom appeared to pretend to have a weapon in his jacket, and forced to hand over his cellphone and other items, McAlpine said.

The robbers then turned to a 15-year-old girl who had observed the boy being robbed. They demanded her cell phone, but finding it inoperable they gave it back and fled north on Bloomfield Street on foot, McAlpine said.

The third incident involved a boy and girl, both 15, who were approached at the intersection of Sausalito and Walnut streets, he said. The boy was asked by the assailants if he was a gang member, then "was slapped before giving up his wallet, cellphone and iPod," McAlpine said.

"The girl was shoved against a car and her breasts were fondled," he said, adding that nothing was stolen from her by the robbers, who fled east on Sausalito Street on foot.

Police believe the same two men committed all the attacks.

McAlpine described the first suspect as black, around 20, between 5 feet 7 and 5 feet 10, with a medium build, a tattoo on his neck, an earring, a dark complexion, black short hair and a goatee. He wore a dark jacket with white lettering, dark baggy jeans and sneakers.

The second suspect was described as black, in his 20s, around 6 feet 1, with a thin build and short hair. He wore a dark shirt, dark jeans and a dark sweatshirt.

Witnesses reported seeing a dark, older model Kia or Hyundai sedan in the area shortly after the robbery at Sausalito and Walnut, McAlpine said. The driver was described as a heavyset black female, and there may have been in the car an additional black male passenger, one who sported dreadlocks, he said.

Police say they will make extra patrols around the school until the suspects are caught.

Anyone with information on the incidents was urged to contact the Los Alamitos police detectives bureau at (562) 431-2255, ext. 405.
