Burkhart Reportedly Brought Fire Starter To German Consulate
LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Hollywood arson suspect Harry Burkhart left a major clue about his alleged crimes at the German consulate last month.
The Los Angeles Times reports that 24-year-old Burkhart went to the consulate on Wilshire Boulevard hours after the first fires were started.
Burkhart, who wanted help getting his mom out of jail on fraud charges, placed a fire-starter on the floor as he walked down the hall.
A guard snapped a picture of that device, which is now being used as a key piece of evidence in his trial.
When Burkhart was arrested three days later, authorities found similar fire starters in the back of his mini-van.
He is charged with 37 counts of arson in connection with more than 50 fires that were set across Los Angeles and Hollywood over the holidays.
