Suspect Remains Critical After Officer-Involved Shooting In North Hollywood

NORTH HOLLYWOOD (CBS) —  A Los Angeles police officer shot and wounded a man in North Hollywood, and officials said the suspect remained in critical condition Friday.

The officer-involved shooting occurred about 1:45 p.m. Wednesday in an apartment in the 5200 block of Colfax Avenue.

Two officers were looking for an assault suspect, Richard French of the Los Angeles Police Department said.

Police found the man —  identified as 47-year-old Mark Miles —  inside a unit, French said. He was reportedly holding a steak knife.

"Officers drew their weapons and ordered Miles to drop his knife, but he refused," French said. "He then lunged forward at the officers, holding the knife in a threatening manner, and the officer-involved shooting ensued."

Miles was taken to a hospital, where he remains in critical condition, French said.
