PASADENA (CBS) — About 5,000 Occupy demonstrators marched along the Rose Parade route Monday as part of their ongoing effort to effect governmental change and to call attention to the roles big corporations play in economic problems that ultimately effect middle and lower class Americans.

As the demonstration got under way, the group got a few boos from crowds lining the streets for the parade, which started at 8 a.m., but mostly cheers were heard coming from the curb.

KNX 1070’s Pete Demetriou reports.

The loosely organized group, which has spread across the nation to some other countries, grew out of a Wall Street protest started in New York City this past fall.

The group, about three blocks long and escorted by police, started gathering on Orange Grove Boulevard shortly after 9 a.m., with about 100 people holding a block-long replica of the Bill of Rights.

Near the rear of the group was an octopus made of Cellophane and plastic garbage bags, symbolizing the tentacles of corporate greed. It was flanked by a display of cardboard houses with “foreclosure” written on them.

Among the demonstrators was a brass band, playing the national anthem and “The Mexican Hat Dance.”

The chant “We are the 99 percent” reverberated over the strains of marching bands in the official parade.

Many demonstrators carried signs that played on the parade’s theme “Imagine,” reminiscent of the John Lennon song. One said “Just Imagine No War.” Another: “Imagine No Greed.”

The demonstrators had their own “safety” guards — at least 100 of them in lime-green vests labeled “99,” who said they were there to help diffuse any problems along the parade route.

The loosely organized group apparently chose the parade because of the potential to get publicity, but it was unclear how much time broadcasters would give to demonstrators after filling the morning with official Rose Parade coverage.

Pasadena police agreed to the demonstration and to allow amplifiers or bullhorns, but required it to start after the last float and behind police escorts.

Liberal, neo-conservative, useful idiots and critics of Assembly, and frankly haters of truth and freedom, exist by feeding on the entrepreneurial, middle class.
Which explains why the nation’s respect and admiration are with Occupy and with the Anonymous, Wikileaks and Ruckus brigades. Thank you heroes for all your fvcking service, and a big hoo-rah on the Defecator udda Year award.
For they know, proletariat’s bad children and parasites, sic Zionist apparachik of the Fed, IMF and World Bank, will never admonish the Crony Capitalism feeding their addictions and narcissism. A special interest needful and earnest of all the hearty, steamy excrement patriots can provide. Sh!t and p!ss on, noble flea-baggers and fire-bugs, lest the streets flow with blood.

Who is financing these people? I saw one report that some were “flying in” in order to participate. These are not all local people who want to have their opinions heard, there seems to be a lot of outsiders.

  4. Whisky…Tango… Foxtrot says:

This whole Occupy movement is a joke being pushed by the Left wing media and the Obama administration trying desperately to distance themselves from their failed economic plans, and fortunately for the Democrats they have an endless supply of useful idiots that have nothing better to do then sat around for 30 days outside the LA city Hall building getting high, burning American flags and asking for handouts, and now these losers are getting to march in a parade.

A bunch of thinly-veiled communists flaunting a gaudy mess of non-biodegradable plastic bags, which will take hundreds of years to decompose after this 1-time frivolous use. Wow, that’ll sure help solve the financial ills in this country! Why didn’t anyone think of this solution before? It’s utterly genius (if you don’t count the 99.999% of it that makes no sense whatsoever).

  7. JR says:

5000???? Try 500 maybe. and about 300 made it all the 3/4 mile to Marengo. The “sea of people” on their blog was legitimate parade spectators leaving the area. Their rally at Marengo and Holly couldn’t occupy a bus depot. As usual, they left a bunch of trash in their wake.
