'Occupy LA' Hoping To Make Presence Known At Rose Parade

PASADENA (CBS) — Members of the "Occupy LA" movement are planning to make their presence felt at the 123rd Tournament of Roses Parade.

The demonstrators plan to walk banners ahead of a 250-foot by 50-foot blowup of the U.S. Constitution on Monday, as well as, a new version of a giant octopus puppet that was assembled during their two-month stay at City Hall.

"The new octopus is much more glorious and fully reflect Wall Street and all its ugliness," said Pete Thottam, organizer of the Occupy Rose Parade.

Two marching bands will follow along with several people in costume but "Occupy" is not part of the parade.

"The Tournament of Roses has the right to issue the permits for the parade exclusively and they have not been issued a permit," said Lt. Phlunte Riddle of the Pasadena Police Department.

Pasadena police say the activists will be allowed to follow the police cars at the conclusion of the parade.

"We'll make sure, just like any other spectator that's out there, that they don't interrupt the parade, that they don't infringe on other people's rights just like we won't have anyone infringe on their rights," Riddle added.

Meantime, marchers with the Occupy movement have promised a peaceful demonstration.
