Man Accused Of Shooting Soldier Pleads Not Guilty

SAN BERNARDINO (CBS) — A man accused of shooting a decorated Army veteran in San Bernardino pleaded not guilty to an attempted murder charge Thursday morning.

Ruben Jurado's arraignment was initially planned for Wednesday via a video appearance. However, the 19-year-old asked to see the judge in person.

Jurado is accused of shooting Army Spec. Christopher Sullivan twice at his welcome home party last Friday. Sullivan, who was on a two-week leave, had planned a homecoming gathering at a friend's house.

Witnesses at the party allege that a fight had ensued between Jurado and Sullivan's young brother and that Sullivan reportedly intervened, at which point, shots were fired.

Jurado fled the scene but turned himself into authorities Monday.

Sullivan, who is on life support at an area hospital, has been paralyzed.
