CHP Reports DUI Arrests Up This Holiday Weekend
LOS ANGELES (CBS) — The California Highway Patrol reports that five people have been killed statewide on freeways this holiday weekend and officers have arrested 138 suspected drunken drivers in Los Angeles County, an increase of 55 arrests from the same period last year.
CHP Officer Ed Jacobs says all of the deaths have occurred outside L.A. County. Statewide there were no deaths during the same period in 2010.
The CHP also reports that they have jailed 710 alleged drunken drivers statewide as compared with 507 last year. Also, during this period in 2010, the CHP arrested 83 people in L.A. County, according to Jacobs.
Jacobs said the report covers a 36-hour period from 6:01 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Christmas morning and the arrest figures encompass only freeways and unincorporated areas patrolled by the CHP.
Los Angeles police and L.A. Sheriff's have not yet released any figures on DUI arrests for this reporting period.
