SAN DIEGO (CBS) — Last week we told you about the story of a single dad who was desperate for the return of his dog, Bella.

Brian Margarita, from Point Loma, said his Doberman Pinscher was more than just a family pet — she’s a certified therapy dog for his 9-month-old daughter Reese, who has epilepsy.

Bella sleeps next to Reese’s crib and starts barking whenever the baby has a seizure — a job that Margarita said he relies on every night to help him care for his little girl.

After creating a facebook awareness page, and offering a $2,000 reward for Bella’s return, police got a tip.

San Diego Sheriff’s Deputies say that Margarita’s bitter ex-girlfriend had the canine dognapped — out of spite.

Bella was found at the Lakeview home of one of his ex-girlfriend’s friends.

Margarita says Bella is tired and a bit confused but settling back into her routine.

On his facebook wall, Margarita thanked Mark Zuckerberg for creating the social networking site. “Without this unreal ability to communicate with the community at such a rapid page [getting Bella back] would never have happened.”

He added, “This is the greatest Christmas gift and answered prayer.”

I hope the ex girlfriend will face misdemeanor charges of some kind. People seems to think these little, vindictive acts of “ex revenge” aren’t crimes. They are, and they’re dangerous. Grow up.

Misdemeanor? I think felony charges are in order, possibly grand theft as trained therapy dogs aren’t cheap, and perhaps child endangerment.

Why not include the name of the ex? She should be put in front of the public, so that everyone knows what a kind person she is (NOT). I would also think that this woman should face more then a misdemaner since a service dog is valued much more then a regular pet due to its training, etc.. Glad that the dog is back home watching over his little charge and protecting her. Merry Christmas to all.

YAY !!! Bella is home !!!! SHame on that girlfriend – SHE was mad – so she took it out on an innocent dog and the baby – Hope she grew up a little from this – thats not behavior you would expect from a grown woman -….

I agree, the ex-girlfriend’s name should be made public. Shame on her! At least in the end, there was a happy ending.
