Suspicious Package Found Near Church In Koreatown

Update (As of 3 p.m.) — Police report that the scene has been cleared and the package was not an explosive.

Update (As of 12:48 p.m.) — Authorities still on scene investigating the suspicious package. Sgt. Yanez tells CBS2 that they may be wrapping up their investigation soon.

KOREATOWN (CBS) — The Los Angeles bomb squad is responding to a church in Koreatown where a suspicious package has been found.

A passerby made the discovery about 9:45 a.m. Sunday right outside the Church of Christ in the 600 block of S. Manhattan Place, according to Sgt. Yanez at the Olympic Station.

Police report that the entire area has been cordoned off and evacuated.

Yanez told the CBS2/KCAL9 Assignment Desk that the church was empty at the time.
