Female Pedestrian, 60, Killed In Panorama City

PANORAMA CITY (CBS)  — A 60-year-old woman was killed as she crossed near an intersection in Panorama City, police said Sunday.

The motorist, Martha Cruz, 36, hit the woman about 5:35 a.m. Saturday while driving a black Ford Explorer on Woodman Avenue, according to Los Angeles police officer Ralph Emard of the Valley Traffic Bureau.

Cruz was not licensed, and she was given a citation to appear in court, Emard said.

"She'll have charges brought against her," he said. "She stayed and cooperated, gave officers all of her information."

Cruz, a resident of Panorama City, was driving northbound on Woodman when she struck the woman, who was walking eastbound across the street, outside the crosswalk. Emard said. She died at the scene.

The pedestrian's name will be released pending notification of next of kin.
