California-Based Company Announces Recall Of 2,290 Pounds Of Chorizo

WASHINGTON (CBS) — The Food and Drug Administration's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today that a California company was recalling approximately 2,300 pounds of chorizo because the product was labeled incorrectly.

The label of the product does not say the chorizo contains wheat, a known allergen.

Silva Sausage Company, based in Gilroy, says it hasn't received any reports of adverse reactions to consumers using the product in question. They expect to recall 2,290 pounds.

The product subject to recall:  5-lb. vacuum packs of  Neto's Mexican Chorizo."  The product subject to recall bears the establishment number "6086" inside the USDA mark of inspection and can be further identified by the item number "18062" and lot codes "11279," "11293," "11304," "11321," "11333," or "11341."

The product was produced between Oct. 1, 2011, and Dec. 9, 2011.
