LOS ANGELES (CBS) — American Airlines issued a statement Wednesday, just one day after actor Alec Baldwin was removed from a New York-bound flight at LAX.

“Since an extremely vocal customer has publicly identified himself as being removed from an American Airlines flight on Tuesday, Dec. 6, we have elected to provide the actual facts of the matter as well as the FAA regulations which American, and all airlines, must enforce. Cell phones and electronic devices are allowed to be used while the aircraft is at the gate and the door is open for boarding. When the door is closed for departure and the seat belt light is turned on, all cell phones and electronic devices must be turned off for taxi-out and take-off. This passenger declined to turn off his cell phone when asked to do so at the appropriate time. The passenger ultimately stood up (with the seat belt light still on for departure) and took his phone into the plane’s lavatory. He slammed the lavatory door so hard, the cockpit crew heard it and became alarmed, even with the cockpit door closed and locked. They immediately contacted the cabin crew to check on the situation. The passenger was extremely rude to the crew, calling them inappropriate names and using offensive language. Given the facts above, the passenger was removed from the flight and denied boarding.”

Baldwin, who was playing a game called “Words With Friends”, could face stiff fines for forcing the delay of his initial flight, which returned to the gate.

He was transferred to another flight and mobbed by reporters upon his arrival in New York.

He later tweeted that he would never fly American again.

      yuck, he’s a pig…

  2. Tyler says:

Alec Baldwin is a joke. He is not above any person and the same rules apply to him. American Airlines had every right to do what they did. Slap him with a hefty fine as well. Ignorant actor.

  3. rich says:

its a lie they DO NOT enforce that lame rule when the plane is at the gate doors closed or not because they know it may take a while to actually get on the runway and take off. AA has the worst crew in the world i saw one tell a lady to feed her kid more neatly cuz its not easy to clean the seats ITS NOT THE CREW WHO HAS TO CLEAN IT and even if they did the kid was like a year old GET REAL they knew baldwin was no threat and if all they got was him cussin then they need to get out of the service industry

Baldwin is a nut case. They should never let him fly on ANY airlines-who does he think he is ? JC

  5. Bias says:

Huh, and to think…You and I would have the FBI waiting for us at the gate with handcuffs.

  6. Kate says:

Alex Baldwin considers himself privileged and above the rules and regulations that apply to us all, for the safety of the flight. He’s a spoiled, self-obsessed man with the emotional maturity of an eight year old.

  7. will says:

Wow, I hope Baldwin let’s everyone know which airlines he will not fly so I can fly on those. I can’t belive anyone wants him as a spokeperson.

  8. Murdock says:

Alec Baldwin treats everybody like trash, then expects to be treated with first class treatment himself. Rules are rules and everybody is expected to abide by them. To make a scene, as he did, is why he got booted. I’m sure American Airlines will be thrilled to know he won’t be flying with them anymore.

  9. Joel says:

Come on though… are we past a REALLY DUMB law that is old and outdated… I mean, were not turning a microwave on while were on a cordless phone any more.
Alec and AA is not at fault, a dumb pointless law should be the focus here.

    1. Murdock says:

The law IS outdated, as it relates to interferring with flight operations, however from a customer courtesy standpoint it should still apply. There’s nothing more annoying than being in a confined aircraft, listening to some jerk-weed yapping on his phone for all to hear. It just goes to show that Alec Baldwin could care less about anybody else and just serve his own self-centered ego.

Looks like Alec conveniently left out a few important details when he complained about his treatment on Twitter. What a dumb*ss.
