'Sweet Alice' Harris Continues Thanksgiving Tradition In Watts

WATTS (CBS) — It's a Thanksgiving tradition in Watts: the "Sweet Alice" Harris turkey giveaway.

"Sweet Alice", as she is known, has been providing Thanksgiving cheer to families in need for 45 years. She is handing out 250 free turkeys this year at "Parents of Watts." She is the founder and executive director of the local youth outreach program.

Alice has become a pioneer in the community of Watts. For last 22 years, she has provided toys, bikes, and school supplies to inner-city children in need.

Alice pays for the gifts from her own funds and with donations. She said her goal is to bring attention to what the "spirit of the season" really means.

She will begin her season of giving Tuesday and is already planning her annual toy giveaway.
