Palm Springs Man Gets Prison For Child Porn, Taping 'Sex Acts' With Dog

RIVERSIDE (CBS) — A Palm Springs man who admitted to child pornography and bestiality charges will spend 16 months in jail, an attorney said Monday.

Joel Bradley Simpson, 36, pleaded guilty to a felony count of possessing child porn and a misdemeanor count of sodomy in Riverside County Superior Court, Deputy District Attorney Brijida Rodarte said.

Judge Victoria E. Cameron sentenced Simpson to the 16-month term immediately following the verdict.

Simpson, who had no prior criminal record, also pleaded guilty Friday to a separate misdemeanor charge of possession of a controlled substance, which Rodarte said was methamphetamine.

He was sentenced to 213 days in county jail on the drug conviction and will serve that term concurrently with his other sentence, the prosecutor said.

Simpson was arrested June 16 at his home in the 1600 block of Via Entrada, after a tipster contacted police with child porn allegations, according to Palm Springs Police Department spokesman Rhonda Long.

"A search warrant was served at Simpson's residence, and he was found to be in possession of several disturbing video and photograph files of child pornography," Long said earlier.

Long said Simpson was also in possession of a video in which he was "performing sex acts with an animal".

The animal was a dog, according to the criminal complaint, and the ages of the children depicted in the files stored on Simpson's computer range from infancy to preteens, Long said.
