Dillon Baxter Granted Release From USC

(CBS) -- In the week leading up to the USC game against Notre Dame, Lane Kiffin announced sophomore RB Dillon Baxter was no longer part of the football team and would focus on his academics, now he has been granted his release from the university, reports Michael Lev of the Orange County Register.

The sophomore had just nine carries this season.

Baxter, a five-star recruit out of high school, was the biggest star for the Trojans Spring camp in 2010, but it never materialized on the playing field.

He is still enrolled in school and will finish the semester. Baxter is reportedly interested in transferring to San Diego State, Portland State or Florida.
