OIS Leaves Knife-Wielding Man In Critical Condition
LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Los Angeles police reportedly shot a knife-wielding man downtown Sunday afternoon leaving him in critical condition.
Officer Karen Rayner of the Los Angeles Police Department said officers were responding to a call of a man with a knife.
The shooting happened around 4:40 p.m. near Seventh and Los Angeles Streets.
Rayner said, "Officers made contact with the man and an officer-involved shooting occurred."
The man was taken to a hospital in critical condition.
Rachel Kim, reporting for CBS2 and KCAL9, quotes an eyewitness as saying the suspect taunted police while refusing to drop his knife. She quotes the wounded man as shouting, "Shoot me, shoot me," to officers.
Rayner said no officers were injured.
