$5K Reward Offered For Information In Vandalization Of Reagan Statue

NEWPORT BEACH (CBS) — A $5,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of a vandal who damaged a statue of Ronald Reagan in Bonita Canyon Sports Park.

A witness says he saw a man in a tan, extended-cab pickup truck tie something around the top of the statue before binding it to the front of his vehicle on Sunday morning.

The suspect then got into the truck and put it in reverse, attempting to move the life-size statue.

He was unable to knock it over, but it was severely damaged. Officials are now trying to figure out how to repair the statue, which is cast in bronze.

It was created last August and recently placed in the park.
