McCourt Attorney: Stow May Be Partly Responsible For Opening Day Attack

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — An attorney for Dodgers owner Frank McCourt says San Francisco Giants fan Bryan Stow may be partly to blame for the brutal attack that left him with severe injuries on Opening Day.

In a new interview, Jerome Jackson suggests that Stow be somewhat responsible for the March 31 assault because his blood alcohol level was reportedly well above the legal driving limit.

Jackson, who rejects claims that the Dodgers should be completely liable for the attack, made the comments on 710 ESPN radio here in Los Angeles.

"I've been doing these cases for 23 years and I have never seen one yet in which it didn't take at least two people to tango," he said.

Attorneys for McCourt and the Dodgers filed a civil action against the two men charged in Stow's beating as part of their strategy in defending a $50 million lawsuit filed by Stow's family.

Louie Sanchez, 29, and Marvin Norwood, 30, are accused of attacking Stow as he and his friends left Dodger Stadium.

They pleaded not guilty to charges of mayhem, assault, battery and several other counts. They are being held on $500,000 bail each.

Earlier this week, Major League Baseball accused McCourt of "looting" more than $189 million from the team's bank account.

Officials say McCourt siphoned off team revenue to pay for personal debts and funneled millions more through a land company.

The Los Angeles Times is reporting that he may consider selling the team.
