Anaheim Man Sentenced To 55 Years To Life For Molesting Two Boys
ANAHEIM (CBS) — An Anaheim man was sentenced Friday to 55 years to life in prison for sexually assaulting two boys, including a mentally disabled 10-year-old, in his apartment.
Roberto Bedolla Ambriz, 55, was convicted March 15 by Orange County Superior Court Judge William Evans in a non-jury trial.
Ambriz lured the mentally disabled youngster to his apartment by letting him smoke cigarettes, eat potato chips and watch pornography, and molested him at least five times starting in early February 2005, Deputy District Attorney Heather Brown said.
Ambriz also gave the boy money after he sexually assaulted the child, according to the prosecutor.
He lured the other victim to his apartment at the end of June 2008 by offering the 9-year-old a toy, Brown said.
The boy suffered rectal bleeding and made himself vomit when he got home because he thought he was poisoned, Brown said.
A week after the attack, he told his mother, who called police, Brown said.
The younger victim initially told investigators Ambriz dragged him into an alley, Brown said, adding the boy testified that he lied because he thought he would get in trouble for going to Ambriz's apartment.
Ambriz's apartment did not have doorknobs, but had dead-bolt locks on both sides, the prosecutor said.
The 9-year-old told police he passed the disabled victim, who appeared dizzy, on the stairs to Ambriz's apartment, and investigators later tracked down that boy, Brown said.
When confronted with a ruse that police had DNA evidence connecting Ambriz to one of the crimes, Ambriz admitted to police he had attacked two boys, Brown said.
Ambriz told investigators the boys were "curious about sex," the prosecutor said, adding that he made both victims watch pornography as he sexually assaulted them.
Alternate Public Defender Raul Ramirez did not return messages for comment.
Ambriz was convicted of one felony count each for having sex with a child 10 years or younger, kidnapping for child molesting and committing a forcible lewd act on a child, and eight felony counts of lewd or lascivious acts with a minor.
