Detectives: Ex-Penthouse Model Washed Ashore SoCal Beach With Broken Bones

SAN DIEGO (CBS) — Investigators sought the public's help Tuesday in the mysterious death of a former Penthouse model.

The body of Anneka Vasta washed ashore near Camp Pendleton back in January in a restricted area where Marine troops train about two miles north of San Onofre State Beach.

Her vehicle was later found parked near the 5 Freeway at a popular rest stop overlooking the scenic view of the Pacific Ocean.

Vasta, who worked as a nursing assistant in Los Angeles, went by the name Anneka Di Lorenzo back in the 1970s when she was named the Penthouse "Pet Of The Year".

An autopsy confirmed Vasta drowned, but she also suffered a broken neck and back.

Detectives said if Vasta had jumped from the overlook, she likely would not have hit the water since the tide typically does not come up that far along the beach.

While no criminal charges have been filed, detectives are asking anyone who may have seen Vasta around the time of her death to come forward with any information they may have.
