IDYLLWILD (CBS) — A 43-year-old off-duty sheriff’s deputy was killed when his 1978 Jeep crashed near highways 74 and 371 in the San Bernardino National Forest outside Idyllwild, the California Highway Patrol said Saturday.

The crash occurred about 10:45 p.m. Friday when Deputy Sean Bahash, a resident of Mountain Center, lost control of the Jeep he was driving and it overturned, according to CHP spokesman Darren Meyer.

“As Bahash was traveling eastbound down a steep, rutted dirt road, he lost control of the Jeep,” Meyer said. “The vehicle overturned, ejecting Bahash, who was unrestrained. Bahash was crushed by the overturning Jeep and declared dead at the scene by Cal Fire paramedics.”

A passenger in the Jeep, Eli Higgins of Aguanga, suffered minor injuries and refused medical attention, Meyer said.

The CHP was investigating the crash, he said.

    1. Jeezus says:

He should’ve wrote you one for poor grammar. As far as your poor taste in life goes, you’ll write your own ticket.

Jeezus, it’s “should’ve written.” Maybe you should check your own grammar before trying to correct others.

    1. Jeezus says:

i wrote “shoulda” at first too but changed it cause i knew you’d show up.

      1. YOUR TEACHER says:

It’s because, not cause. Did you drop out of middle school?

    2. Jeezus says:

My teacher is smart. And funny to boot.

    3. Jeezus says:

AND….all i did was talk down to someone who was talking down about a deputy+ who sadly died, and so all you Jeezus haters are simply being cop haters. AND…if you say not, that instead it’s that you just hate people who have something smart alec or foolish to say to another person on a comment board, as i’d done, then simply put-you dont like yourself. Since you did the same thing. So keep on being a cop hater-your day will come. There are good cops and there are bad ones. As with humans there are good and bad ones. You are grouping yourselves into the bad ones side. Go ahead and be righteous with your criminal ideals.

  7. Jeezus says:

originally i found it silly they’d word it as “unrestrained”, as i thought maybe to make it sound more legal, or to deceive readers from the fact that he didn’t have his seatbelt on….but you all celebrating death are the crazy ones so go ahead and get on the bandwagon now before you miss your turn

Sean lived life unrestrained and after 20+ years on the force, including SWAT, without a scratch, he deserves more than this. Please be respectful of this generous man who died accidentally by having fun on purpose.

Corrupt DEA are tampering with their suspect’s automobiles with the intent of causing a fatal accident.

Sunday Sept 18 2011 a camera at the bank adjacent to Starbucks across the street from the Santa Clara University (which also happens to be next to the Santa Clara Police head Quarters building) caught 2 of these corrupt D.O.J. employees doing just that.

The DEA is part of the crime problem and not solution.

Leslie – you are 100% correct Sgt Bahash deserves nothing but respect. May he rest in peace and his family remember what a great man he was!

If thiscomment link is the new age of communication I want no part of it. It is just an outlet for mean people to take advantage of a tragic situation.
