Conrad Murray Trial Delayed After Witness' Father Dies

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Conrad Murray's involuntary manslaughter trial was delayed Monday because the father of one of the witnesses died over the weekend.

Dr. Steven Shafer, an anesthesiology expert, had been scheduled to testify Monday.

Prosecutors say his testimony is crucial in proving that Murray's negligence led to Michael Jackson's death in 2009.

There's no word on when the trial, which was recessed Thursday afternoon because Shafer had been scheduled to attend a medical conference, will resume.

Shafer reportedly never made it to the event because of his father's death.
