2 Teens Accused Of Stealing Loaded Shotgun From Murrieta Home

MURRIETA (CBS) — Two teenage boys accused of breaking into a home and stealing a loaded shotgun were behind bars, Murrieta police said.

The burglary at a home in the 24700 block of Morning Star Drive was reported to authorities about 8:54 p.m. Wednesday.

According to police Sgt. Steve Dyer, the homeowner called authorities to report that his home had been broken into and that a gun was missing.

"Investigators learned of two potential 17-year-old suspects who lived at different locations in Murrieta," Dyer said. "The teens were contacted and eventually admitted stealing the shotgun."

Officers found the still loaded gun and returned it to the owner, Dyer said.

The suspects were arrested on suspicion of grand theft of a firearm, residential burglary and conspiracy to commit a felony.

They were taken to Juvenile Hall near the Southwest Detention Center in Murrieta, Dyer said.
