Man, 23, Convicted Of Sexual Assault Of 58-Year-Old Woman

SANTA ANA (CBS) — A 23-year-old man was convicted Wednesday of sexually assaulting a woman alongside a walking trail in Esplanade Park near Santa Ana.

Alfredo Fraga of Orange was found guilty of two felony counts of sexual penetration by a foreign object by force, with a sentencing enhancement for kidnapping to commit a sexual offense, according to the Orange County District Attorney's Office.

The jury deliberated about an hour before coming to a decision late Tuesday, and returned today for the reading of the verdicts.

Fraga attacked the 58-year-old victim as she walked alone on a trail in the park about 2 p.m. on May 25, 2009.

Fraga dragged her into the bushes and sexually assaulted her with his fingers, according to prosecutors.

The woman, whose name was withheld, screamed for help but was unable to get away. A person who was nearby and a motorist who was driving past both came to her aid.

An Orange County sheriff's deputy, who was off-duty at the time, and several witnesses saw the man try to run away, but restrained him until he was arrested.

Fraga faces up to 30 years to life in prison, with sentencing set for Dec. 2.
