Metro Blue Line Service Returns To Normal After Electrical Fire In Compton

COMPTON (CBS) — Metro Blue Line service returned to normal Saturday, 11 hours after an electrical fire in Compton knocked power out to evening trains, a Metro official said.

Service was fully restored about 12:30 a.m., Metro spokesman Jose Ubaldo said.

The fire, which was reported at 6:45 p.m. Friday, was apparently caused by short circuit in a switch at 120th and Willowbrook Avenue, Ubaldo said. Crews put out the fire and power was cut between the Compton and 103rd Street stations.

By 10:30 p.m. Friday, Blue Line trains were operating on a single-track service through Compton and some were running 40 minutes behind schedule.

The Blue Line operates between downtown Los Angeles and Long Beach and sees the heaviest passenger load of any light rail train line in the nation, Metro officials have said.
