Strike Averted? Grocery Workers To Vote On New Contract Friday
LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Southern California grocery workers will vote on a new contract Friday. If it's approved as expected, a crippling supermarket strike will be averted.
Voting begins at 8 a.m. and will continue until 7 p.m. Store employees will decide whether to accept a deal their union leaders negotiated with Ralphs, Albertsons and Vons.
Union officials have urged their rank and file members to ratify the plan, which they say addresses workers' concerns about funding for their health plans.
The Southland's three largest grocery chains say the agreement would allow them to remain competitive.
