SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO (CBS/AP) — Authorities say 45-year-old Peter Quill of San Juan Capistrano was released on bail Friday after being arrested for allegedly beating his neighbor with a flashlight during an altercation over noise made by the neighbor’s generator.

Quill had been booked at the Men’s Central Jail on $25,000 bail.

The fight erupted during the massive blackout Thursday evening that extended from South Orange County to parts of Arizona and Mexico.

Quill attempted to turn off the generator after his neighbor refused to switch it off himself, according to Jim Amormino, Orange County Sheriff’s Department spokesperson.

The neighbor, Anthony Morales, was allegedly attacked when he approached Quill.

Morales  later received treatment at a hospital for lacerations and a possible concussion. Neighbors say he is a Los Angeles firefighter.

Which idiot? The idiot with the loud generator? Or the idiot with the flashlight?

How DARE someone be smart enough to have an emergency generator and want to do something like keep their food good…

Pray you never make enough noise to get beat with a flashlight–no wait, I pray you do. Might knock some sense into you. Remember to stay away from all those prepared people with loud generators when the big earthquake finally hits. They attract random whackos with maglites.

People who prepare for disasters by having a Generator are the smart ones. I think the man who attacked him was simply behaving like a child,…If I can’t make myself comfortable and take care of my property, then you shouldn’t be able to either’ attitude.

Having a generator is great, but if it is noisy then don’t use it past 10 pm. There is a law about noise after 10pm and by then you should not have to use it unless it is a life threat and you need it. The guy should have called the police first about the noise and they could have come out and told the guy to shut it off. I live where in the inland empire and I don’t turn on air conditioner till the weather hits 100 or more and don’t have generator.
