OC Children's Hospital Seeks Donations After Losing Hundreds Of DVDs
ORANGE (CBS) — Officials are asking the public to help replace hundreds of DVDs used to entertain patients at the Children's Hospital of Orange County that went missing nearly one month ago.
At least one local business has already answered the call to replace the movies: the owners of Haven Gastropub at 190 S. Glassell St. are calling on their customers to drop off replacement DVDs at the restaurant.
Through Sunday, donating customers will get 10 percent off their bill for every DVD donated up to $100 total.
Police have not been notified, according to hospital representative Denise Almazan.
"We haven't confirmed that they have been stolen," Almazan said.
Because the DVDs have been missing for close to a month, security may soon report them as stolen, Almazan said.
While hospital officials appreciate any donations, they would prefer gift cards so its staff could pick out the DVDs most appropriate for children, Almazan said.
Hospital officials heard about the restaurant's fundraiser when it was posted on the hospital's Facebook wall, Almazan said.
"We're very appreciative of it. We're a nonprofit and there are many ways for people to support CHOC," Almazan said. "It's wonderful that the community has been so supportive."
Some of the DVDs were movies and others were video games, Almazan said.
