Artesia Man, Woman And Unborn Baby Killed, 3 Critical In Head-On Crash In Kern County

LOS ANGELES (CBS) Authorities said a man and a woman from Artesia were killed Thursday in a head-on collision with another car on State Route 14 in northern Kern County.

The crash occurred about 9:40 p.m. when the car driven by the man who was killed was heading north on the 14 in the southbound lanes.

The names of the victims were withheld pending notification of next of kin.

The victims were described as a 19-year-old male and47-year-old woman riding in a Mitsubishi Eclipse. They were both pronounced dead at Antelope Valley Hospital in Lancaster.

There were also two passengers in the Mitsubishi: 19-year-old Angela Navejas, of Homeland, and a 5-year-old boy whose name was withheld. They were both critically injured. Navejas was pregnant and the baby did not survive.

The driver in the other vehicle, namely Joel Yanez, 22, of Mammoth Lakes in a Toyota Camry, was also injured critically.

The CHP said alcohol did not appear to be a factor in the crash.
