WeHo Driver Dies After Car Plows Into Freeway Pillar

WESTCHESTER (CBS) — A driver from West Hollywood was killed after his car struck a concrete pillar along the northbound San Diego (405) Freeway, a California Highway Patrol officer said.

The accident near Howard Hughes Parkway was reported at 4:04 a.m. Sunday, CHP Officer Ed Jacobs said.

The victim, identified as a 42-year-old male, died at the scene. No one else was in the car at the time, the CHP said in a report issued.

It was unknown what caused the driver's 1998 Volkswagen Beetle to veer off the freeway and hit the pillar.
