COMPTON (CBS) — Authorities are searching for the driver who hit and killed a bicyclist near Compton Tuesday night.

A 50-year-old man was struck by a black BMW at the intersection of Avalon and Redondo Beach boulevards just after 9 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.

Many cyclists act like they own the road, frequently ignoring stop signs, pedestrian and motor vehicle traffic patterns, and traffic lights. While some ride with respect and awareness for traffic laws and courtesy, the worst create dangerous and sometimes fatal consequences. When I hear “black BMW”, I can’t help but picture some young punk speeding and darting in the traffic. the fact that the car left the scene is pretty convincing. I would guess he’s probably a thug in a leased vehicle.

Stubby, it Compton AKA “Africa”. The place smells, welfare as a career and gangs everywhere. Why would anyone want to be there?
