Weaver Takes Less $ To Stay With Angels

ANAHEIM (AP) -- Jered Weaver simply decided his loyalty to the Los Angeles Angels was worth much more than a few extra millions in free agency.

The Angels formally announced their five-year, $85 million deal with Weaver on Tuesday, keeping their ace with the club through 2016.

Weaver realizes he probably could have made a bit more as an unrestricted free agent after next season, but he doesn't care.

The Southern California native is happy living in Newport Beach, playing for the Angels and eschewing the drama of high-pressure East Coast markets.

With dozens of fans chanting Weaver's name at a news conference outside Angel Stadium, the right-hander struggled to keep his composure while thanking his family and fiance.

Weaver is 14-6 with a 2.10 ERA after starting the All-Star game last month.
