Sonia Hermosillo, 31, is accused of throwing her son from the fourth floor of the west parking structure at Children's Hospital Orange County in Orange.

Noe Medina was hospitalized in critical condition at UC Irvine Medical Center Tuesday morning.

"This is a defenseless child who is now clinging to life at a local hospital, so we're glad that it came to the conclusion that it did, we're glad that we were able to get her in custody," said Sgt. Dan Adams of the Orange County Police Department.

Hermosillo's husband had called police to report his wife and son missing before the incident.

At 10:15 p.m. Monday, an Orange police officer spotted Hermosillo driving past the hospital because her license plate number had been captured by CHOC's security cameras earlier in the evening.

An empty child seat was found in her SUV.

She is now in custody and faces one count of attempted murder. Her bail has not been set. She's expected to appear in court Wednesday for her arraignment.
