Deputy District Attorney Alison Matsumoto says the open plea was entered Friday before a Burbank judge over the prosecution's objection. Matsumoto says she told the court she did not feel the case was appropriate for early disposition. A preliminary hearing of the evidence had been scheduled for Friday.

The judge accepted the plea and sentenced 21-year-old Ani Voskanian to three years of probation. She also must do 300 hours of community service, including talking to junior and senior high school students about the dangers of texting and driving.

Misak Ranjbar, 80, was struck and killed last September while crossing a Glendale street.
