Borrow Designer Looks For Less At 'Rent The Runway'

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — A new service is a veritable Netflix for fashionistas.

At RentTheRunway.com you can choose from a wide selection of high-end designers, rent an outfit for a special event and then return it the next day in an envelope.

It's a perfect solution for people with runway taste but can't afford the price tag.

"I had this red, sequined, little, tiny dress for my bachelorette [party] and, then, I had this really pretty Nantucket Hamptons kind of white, frilly dress," said actress Sarah Baldwin, a West Hollywood resident who needed three dresses for her husband's movie premiere, her bachelorette party and her bridal shower.

Baldwin rented all three designer ensembles online from "Rent The Runway" warehouse, filled with 25,000 current designer dresses.

By renting, consumers can save up to 90 percent on the purchase price.

Baldwin's Preen "Plaza" dress retails for $1,300 but she rented it for $150.

The white Milly dress she rented for $50 retails for $360.

And the red sequined Peter Soronen dress retails for $1,380 and she rented it for $200.

All of these are bargains for dresses that Baldwin said she wouldn't wear that often.

The site also provides an online stylist who helps shoppers find accessories for rent that will match their look.

Some of the designers include Badgley Mischka, Nina Ricci, Halston Heritage, Hervé Léger, theory, Nanette Lepore and BCBG Max Azria.
