Son Accused Of Setting SUV On Fire With His Mother Locked Inside

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — A Southland man is accused of setting a SUV on fire with his 68-year-old mother locked inside.

Suzanne Marques, reporting for CBS2 and KCAL9, reported Sunday night from the LA County Jail where the suspect remained behind bars.

Fortunately, the suspect's mother escaped the Explorer without being seriously injured.

The incident occurred in Inglewood on 84th Street and 2nd Ave.

Officials also tell Marques that the man will be charged with attempted murder and arson. The suspect is identified as 40-year-old Gordon Grant.

Inglewood police told Marques Grant was involved in several recent incidents that have caused neighbors worry calling his behavior erratic. They claim he took a blowtorch to a pile of trash because it hadn't been picked up on time setting off a fire. They also said he also shot at a neighbor across the street causing SWAT to be called.

Marques spoke to the man's neighbors who told her they were grateful he was off the streets because they said his increasingly violent behavior made them unsafe.

Bobby Wells said the suspect's mother is a "very nice lady." He's noticed changes in her son. "I think he needs some help."
